SUMMARY:Buddhist Lent Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\nAarsalha Puja\nJuly 26\, 2026\nAt Wat Pasantidhamma\, VA \nAsalha Puja – falls on the full moon of the eighth lunar month (July). This was the day that the Lord Buddha preached His sermons to followers after attaining enlightenment. The day is usually celebrated by merit-making\, listening to a monk’s sermon\, and joining a candle-lit procession during the night. \nKhao Phansa – falls on the first day after the full moon of the eighth lunar month (July) and marks the beginning of the three-month Buddhist ‘Lent’ period. At this time\, all monks and novices must remain in their temples. They should not venture out or spend the night in any other place except in cases of extreme emergency and\, even then\, their time away must not exceed seven consecutive nights. This is a time for serious contemplation and meditation for both monks and laymen alike. Traditionally\, it is also important for laymen to ordain their sons into the monkhood on this day to get the maximum benefit from the Buddhist teachings. \nWat Pasantidhamma provides the opportunity for you to come and join the ceremony as a part of the annual celebration for the cultivation of meritorious deeds. \nProgram \nSaturday July 25\, 2026\n6:00 p.m. Evening Chanting by the monks and congregation\nSpread livingkindness and compassion \nSunday July 26\, 2026 \n6:00 a.m. Morning Chanting by the monks and congregation\n9:59 a.m. Together at Dhamma Sala.\n10:00 a.m. Group Chanting\, taking the precepts and the monks Chant the Sutras.\n10:30 a.m. Offering to monks.\n11:00 a.m. Lunch served to the monks.\n11:30 a.m. Lunch for congregation.\n12:45 p.m. Religious ceremony Candlelight procession Sermon in Thai by the Abbot\nCeremony closed[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
