SUMMARY:Kathina 2026 Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Significance of the Ceremony \nDuring the rainy season of each year\, the Lord Buddha established the Buddhist discipline called Buddhist lent\, during which every monk stayed overnight at the same temple for three lunar months to study and practice the Dhamma intensely. \nAfter the end of the Buddhist lent\, the Kathina Day festival is the next great festival to be held at each temple. All Buddhists believe that this is the biggest merit-making ceremony. The donation for Kathina Day is quite distinct from other kinds of donations due to the limitation of time to make it\, within one lunar month after the end of Buddhist lent only once a year in each temple. Monks qualified to get the Kathina yellow robes have to keep staying overnight at the same temple three complete lunar months. Furthermore\, the Kathina ceremony can only be held in a temple having at least five such monks. \nOffering Kathina yellow robes can not be specified for individual monks but has to be done as a Sanghadana\, an offering for the whole group of monks. Join us in making a New Year’s resolution for new merit. \nDecember 31\n7:30 pm. — Evening Puja\n9:00. pm — Dhamma talk\n10:00 pm to 11:30pm — Walking or Sitting Meditation\n11:30 pm — Chanting\n12:10 am — Sharing the merit \nJanuary 1\n10:00 am — Arrive\n10:25 am — Monks’ Almsround (ceremonial food offerings made directly into the monks’ bowls**)\n10:45 am — Meal Offering (please bring a dish to share)\n11:00 am — Blessing \n** For the ceremonial almsround\, please limit offerings to small nonperishable items that won’t damage the monks’ bowls\, such as tea\, coffee\, dark chocolate\, dried goods\, cheese\, soy milk\, emergen-C powder\, etc.\n** Please do not put money\, checks\, into the monks’ bowls. \nHappy Holidays!

DESCRIPTION:Wat Pah’s Lunar Observance Day \nEvening chanting\, meditation\, taking of the precepts and a Dhamma talk will take place at the Wat from 7:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. \nThe evening continues with a meditation vigil through the night\, with sitting and walking meditation as one wishes in half-hour segments. There is an intermission with tea and informal discussion at midnight\, then sitting and walking resume until morning chanting at 3:00 a.m. Visitors are very welcome to attend as much of the night as they wish.
